In a daring fusion of sound and vision, Huge Da Oracle steps into uncharted territory with the unveiling of their introspective new album, "YOU ASKED FOR IT" (YAFI). Answering the listeners' demand, with enough mysticism and driven by an insatiable urge to break the mold, this masterpiece challenges conventions, pushing the limits of creativity and forever altering the landscape of the music experience.
You Asked For... (the Collaboration)
The creative contribution to any timeless piece is often built on the premise of a thoughtful collaboration beyond its primary medium of expression. The enduring composition of art and music provides YAFI with a new interpretation. This translation of expression is best captured through the eyes of Amogelang Pila Ditlhale, a visual artist with a distinctive style who brought her unique artistic vision to life by creating stunning artworks for each song and the main album cover, except for two, in this 8-song project. Her use of alternative and recyclable materials perfectly complemented Huge Da Oracle's serial lyricism.
The duo had an absolute blast working together, learning from each other, and exploring new forms of expression. Amogelang's vibrant and spiritual style perfectly captures the essence of Huge Da Oracle's music, affirming her position as a true original in her art practice.
Behind the Art: A Stagalogue with Huge Da Oracle
We had the pleasure of asking Huge Da Oracle a few questions to help better unfold and understand YAFI. We take a step back for a reflective one-on-one conversation with the Rustenburg-based rapper.
Stagnot: What inspired the theme/concept for the album?
Huge Da Oracle: I wanted to share my love for visual art alongside my music, leading to a collaboration with Amo Pila Ditlhale. She created artworks for each song and the main album cover, becoming an extension of what I couldn't express musically.
Stagnot: How did you approach production differently on this album?
Huge Da Oracle: I wrote many songs before entering the studio, and Nic Jay helped interpret my ideas sonically, bringing a fresh perspective.
Stagnot: What's the story behind your favorite track, "Warrior"?
Huge Da Oracle: Working with Bongo Riot, a legend from Gang Of Instrumentals, was a dream come true. Casmo Marsiano introduced us, and the result is a special song that resonates deeply with me.
Stagnot: Can you explain the meaning/inspiration behind the project?
Huge Da Oracle: "YOU ASKED FOR IT" (YAFI) encourages ownership of our actions and decisions, rather than blame-shifting. It's a philosophy I live by, and I hope to inspire listeners to do the same.
Stagnot: How do you hope listeners interpret the album?
Huge Da Oracle: I want listeners to interpret the album in their own way, just like visual art. I've collaborated with a visual artist, so I'm open to individual perspectives.
Stagnot: Were there any dream collaborations that didn't make the cut?
Huge Da Oracle: I'm grateful for the collaborations that did happen, and I believe I'll have time to work with others in the future.
Stagnot: What do you hope listeners take away from this project on a personal level?
Huge Da Oracle: I hope listeners take their time to experience the project without rushing. Every song is a snapshot of my life, community, and values.
Stagnot: What sets you apart from others in your genre?
Huge Da Oracle: I explore the human condition through my songs, reflecting the world around us. I'm grateful to great musicians who helped me achieve this.
Stagnot: What's next for you after this album release?
Huge Da Oracle: More music, visuals, and intimate performances. We're planning an art exhibition and a small tour to follow.
Stagnot: Are you planning a tour to support this album?
