Garth Brown Releases Debut Single ‘No Evil’

Johannesburg, South Africa – 19 July 2024. Today marks a significant milestone in the musical journey of Garth Brown as he proudly releases his debut single, ‘No Evil.’ This powerful track serves as the opening chapter of his forthcoming EP, offering listeners a glimpse into his soul-stirring narrative of survival and hope.

Garth Brown, a musician and vessel of love and light, channels the strength of his experiences through the power of song. ‘No Evil’ is not just a track; it’s a lifeline that kept him afloat during one of his darkest moments. Initially recorded as a freestyle video post a studio session for Shi Kargo’s single ‘About You’ in August 2020, the song's true significance unfolded a year later.

In June 2021, Brown faced a harrowing battle with COVID-19, finding himself in ICU. It was during this period that the lyrics and melody of ‘No Evil’ became his beacon of hope. Brown recounts how singing the song silently to himself gave him the strength to endure: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, you are the one, you’re my comfort and my help..." This spiritual encounter, as he describes, was pivotal to his recovery.

This year, Brown received multiple prophetic messages affirming his musical path. Realizing that his music’s healing power was too significant to keep to himself, he committed to sharing it with the world.

Produced by the talented Shi Kargo, who has a long-standing musical partnership with Brown, ‘No Evil’ masterfully blends acid jazz with lounge and soulful house elements. The marriage of Rhodes, synths, and drumline creates a buoyant soundscape, elevated by Brown’s ethereal vocals and harmonies. Reflecting on the recording session, Kargo shares, “We had just wrapped a recording session, and as I was readying to pack up, I played those chords and the Holy Spirit took over Garth Brown. He closed his eyes and just began singing what is now known as ‘No Evil’. I’m so happy that I managed to capture that moment on video. It was an unexplained studio experience, and now we’re able to share the anointing we felt creating it.”

The synergy between Garth Brown and Shi Kargo is palpable, highlighting their deep creative bond and shared vision of using music as a force for good. “‘No Evil’ is more than a song; it’s a beacon of hope and a reminder that even in our most trying moments, we can find strength and peace,” says Brown.
